2015 Super Bowl Exotic Wagers

I haven't talked about Super Bowl exotic wagers yet, so I wanted to give an overview of all the betting opportunities like the if-bets, reverses, round robins, rolling-ifs, Asian handicaps, and similar exotic bets. This type of gambling is best suited to horse racing, baseball, or soccer. Even with NFL football, these bets work best on your typical NFL Sunday, when multiple games are being played. But like most other sporting events, the Super Bowl has enough moving parts to accommodate a few exotic wagers. I'll discuss the concept and show which ones are options for betting on Super Bowl Sunday.

What Is an Exotic Bet?

The exotic bet finds its expression best at the parimutuel race track on horse racing. Exotic bets are those like the Daily Double or the trifecta, where the outcome of one bet affects the outcome of another. At the horse track, these usually require the gambler to pick 2 or more winning horses to win the bet. The drawback is that every bet has to succeed, with the advantage that the payoffs are greater.

If Bets - The "If" bet requires a person to win the first bet in order for the second wager to have action. If you bet on the Ravens to beat the Dolphins and the Texans to defeat the Chiefs, then if the Ravens lose to the Dolphins (or fail to cover), you see now action on the second bet. You've already lost. Since these involves two ballgames, you might they won't work on Super Bowl weekend. I'll discuss later scenarios where they do.

Reverses - This is an if bet going forward and in reverse. If your first reverse wager either wins, ties, or cancels, you'll receive action on your second reverse wager. But if your second reverse wagers wins, ties or cancels, you also receive action on your first reverse bet. Reverse wagers therefore are two straight bets with a bit of a twist. The total amount of the reverse bet will be the amount of each straight bet.

Round Robins- Round robin bets are multi-team wager which range between 3 to 10 teams. The X-number of teams are used to create as many two team parlay combinations (as is possible).

Rolling If Bets - A "rolling if" wagers is a parley, teaser, or even straight bet which relies on the outcome of a previous bet which is still in the balance. This pending game might not have started, or might be still in progress.

Asian Handicap Betting - Quite similar to the pointspread betting in football, the Asian handicaps are part-and-parcel of European or world football matches (soccer). These are popular in that sport because they eliminate the draw from ruining bets. The underdog is given an arbitrary handicap before the game that the favorite must overcome.

Super Bowl & NBA Bets

The most common bets I've seen are those which involve games in the National Basketball Association. The NBA schedule continues throughout the winter and spring every year and you'll find NBA games on the schedule on Super Bowl Sunday, though it's a lighter schedule out of a realization the NFL title game is going to soak up most American sports viewing. Because the Super Bowl starts at 6:20pm on the East Coast, that leaves plenty of time for a feature NBA game in the afternoon run-up to kickoff. Like they do on Christmas Day, the NBA puts one of its marquee teams on television on Super Bowl Sunday.

For instance, the Miami Heat played the Toronto Raptors last year on the day of the Super Bowl. This led to a number of "Lebron James Super Bowl bets". These included whether Lebron James would have more points than Eli Manning would have completions, whether Lebron James would have more assists than Wes Welker had receptions, or whether Chris Bosh would collect more points than Ahmad Bradshaw would collect in receiving yards.

This still doesn't qualify for exotic wagers, but it introduces all sorts of possibilities. In recent years, I've found exotic bets which included the Super Bowl combined with the outcome of that day's NBA games. I've also found similar bets involving National Hockey League games. While I've never heard of them, I imagine someone has released exotic bets involving the Super Bowl and NCAA Basketball games before, too. So you can find exotic wagers involving the NFL championship game, if you don't mind better on the other major sports.

Confused Super Bowl Betting

When you start searching, you'll find a lot of pages that promise "exotic wagers on the Super Bowl". Most of these are from bloggers and news people who might not know gambling terminology as well as they think they do, because they're usually referring to simple prop bets. While certain propositions bets are certainly exotic, odd, or just plain funny super bowl bets, they don't fit the technical definition of exotic bets. I suppose some of these writers may not be referring to a type of betting at all, but pointing out the weirdest Super Bowl bets of the year. This might cause confusion or frustration for you when it's time to find good exotic wagers for the Super Bowl, but I'm afraid you'll have to fight through the useless information.

Super Bowl Exotic Bets

The upshot is you can find exotic wagers which include the outcome of the Super Bowl, but you might have to search a while. Look at this site's article on places in Las Vegas which offers the best parlays and teasers, because they might be a good place to start searching. If you don't want to go through that trouble, I'll suggest you start at the Golden Nugget Sportsbook or the Mirage Race and Sports Book.
